The Bering Strait was the location where, following a meteor shower in 1952, biometal was discovered in substantial enough quantities for use by Soviet and American scientists working for the NSDF and CCA. The location of the initial discovery is unknown; the United States launched an expedition to Alaska to research the material, but since it was deposited by meteor shower it is more likely to have been scattered across Siberia, Alaska and the Diomede islands in the strait itself. There is also likely to have been biometal still at the bottom of the strait's waters by the time the AAN was formed, as political tensions in the area would have made it difficult to explore the area and maintain secrecy.
